A large congregation filled Deeping St James Methodist Church on Sunday 16 October for the Deepings Churches Together united service. This marked a very significant stage in the life together of the churches in Deeping St James and Market Deeping: in recent years, the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady and St Guthlac, the Methodist Church, the Open Door Baptist Church, the Priory Parish Church in Deeping St James, and St Guthlac’s Parish Church in Market Deeping, have gradually been working more closely together, and this service marked the formalising of that relationship.
The service was a very joyful one, celebrating the togetherness of the churches in mission to the community, a theme that was emphasised by Revd. John Tomlinson, of Churches Together in All Lincolnshire, in his sermon. During the service, representatives of each of the five churches signed the constitution, which has been put forward by the committee, again drawn from all the churches.
The spirit of fellowship continued over refreshments after the service, and an ever-expanding programme of events is planned for the coming months – watch this space!
