The Action Group is a team of parishioners who give up
their spare time to organise and run fund raising events and to look after the
day to day maintenance and care of the church fabric and grounds.
The money raised at these events is used in three main ways:
To support the maintenance of the church buildings and grounds.
To support charitable and spiritual causes.
To encourage social activities amongst parishioners.
The Group also liaise with the Ladies Group, without whom many events wouldn't be possible
The Altar Society was formed by a very small group of women in 1953. Their task was to care for the church, to provide the necessary vestments etc., to raise money to support the priest, to provide his food and lodgings and to care for him. This tradition continued until the early1990’s, even though there was a permanent parish priest, with parishioners providing breakfast for the priest after Sunday Mass.
With the change of circumstances in the parish the group was renamed The Ladies Group and they took on the following roll: -
Caring for the Priest’s vestments
Church cleaning. The Action Group assists them in this when ‘heavy’ work is required.
Organising fund raising events for the above and charitable causes.
Assisting the Action Group with their events.
This is group of parents of the pre-communion children who give the pre-communion children instruction in the Gospel of the day. The children are gathered together for the first part of the Mass in the meeting room where they prepare illustrations and are told about the readings.
At the offertory they return to the main body of the church where they give a brief resume of what they have been told and hold up their work
The Eucharistic Ministers have all attended a formation course and been commissioned by the Bishop.
They work under the authority of the Parish Priest to assist with distribution of Holy Communion at Mass and take communion to the sick and housebound, normally following the Sunday Mass. The PP or the Deacon visit in turn once a month during the week.
